The Surprise

Burnham Overy Staithe, Norfolk

The scheme comprises two new build houses, the first built as a holiday home for two families, with the second to be sold on. They are detached but form a coherent composition, a row set at 90 degrees to the coast road, resembling a series of cottages, a configuration typical of the village.

They are built of red brick with details taken from the surrounding area but reworked, avoiding pastiche. Internally the layout responds to the unusual two-family brief: the ground floor is open plan but the 1st floor is divided into two private areas accessed from two separate staircases.
